Ensure success in Targeted Affiliate Marketing in 5 Steps

Affiliate marketing is a popular first time online business for budding entrepreneurs. It looks very easy with no inventory or shipping to worry about. There is no doubt about the fact that it is indeed a simple business, when you know how to do it. Marketing is a problem for beginners as they are not always sure which methods are available and which ones they should use. 5 methods of Affiliate marketing for beginners:

(1) Plan Ahead:

Before you design a website or purchase its domain, carefully consider what products you are going to promote. If you can, stick to what you know. I don't know very much about scuba diving, so guess what? I don't market scuba diving equipment. It becomes very difficult to write about something you have little or no interest in and let's not forget: What you promote must be Relevant! You know you cannot promote diapers on a landscaping website. Likewise, the affiliate program you promote on your site must be relevant in order for your common visitor to consider making a purchase.

(2) Choose Wisely:

Just because it's popular or expensive and the commissions are high, does not mean that you have to promote it. Like I stated earlier, your promotions must appeal to your website's target audience. Take your time and do some research on the affiliate program and the product before you promote it on your site. Additionally, take this into consideration: Some products out there are just a refund waiting to happen. Do a search on any product before you promote it and look through forums and reviews of it before it is posted on your site. If it is a scam or just a well-marketed piece of junk, people will remember that you wrote an excellent review of it when they feel taken advantage of. Keep your site's reputation as good as you can and do your homework.

(3) Keep it Organized:

Ever been to a website that had so much clutter and poor appearance that you didn't even stay long enough for it to finish loading? Is this site yours? Think about it. First impressions are important with people and it is no different online. Everything must be suitable for business and maintain a look and feel of professionalism. Graphics are good for first impressions, but too many graphics, flash animation, and banners can give a customer an epileptic seizure. Ask people what they think and take their criticism seriously. Just don't ask all family members or your survey will have weighted results.

(4) Don't Hype it Up:

Promotional copy on your website that is even better than the material used on the original product's salespage will only turn possible customers away. Your visitors are not there to be mauled by sales propositions and product hype. Your job is not to directly sell the product, but pre-sell it. You want to identify yourself with the customer i.e. Tell them about a problem you had that they may have as well... Then tell them how the product helped you. Don't unload all of the product's features. People barely read what they see online as it is. A good product review should really just be a good descriptive testimonial. Additionally, you can boost sales by adding a commenting script, this way your visitors can leave testimonials as well. People love to express what they think and you can use this to your advantage.

(5) Keep Your Contacts:

Be sure to make good use of an autoresponder on your product review pages as well. Offer a subscription to your newsletter if you have one or maybe even a good product that you have resale rights to. Offer them something of value and set up a good autoresponder series of about 7 emails, one per day. This has been proven to double conversions, since the majority of prospects will not make a purchase on their first visit. One more piece of advice... Make sure you place a good eye catching link at the end of your emails. People scan when they read, and if they completely scroll through your email, they will at least catch the link at the end. You  must recognize the fact that, an affiliate program is a long-term annuity that will out perform any other marketing channel, period. Remember, if you dedicate consistent time and effort to the planning and management of your program, you will secure a powerful and profitable sales channel for your business.
